Cascade Pacific Petzl Bullard

Helmets are a critical piece of equipment for anyone working or playing at height or in an area subject to falling debris of any sort. Helmets must be worn by all members of a rescue team (this includes your patient) at all times during a rescue event. A quality helmet will provide an added degree of safety should the user fall or be struck by falling rocks or other debris. The helmet must be of substantial construction and be designed to protect the wearer's head from tumbling falls and rockfall. Construction hard-hats do not provide adequate protection from the above hazards. Firefighter helmets were designed to protect the firefighter inside a burning building. They do not offer enough impact absorption for the above named situations. Also due to the wide brim on most firefighter helmets, the wearer's field of view (especially looking up) is limited. A helmet without a brim is preferable for high angle work. Properly size the helmet to fit your head. Select and use helmets with a four point suspension system. This will reduce the chance of the helmet being knocked off in a fall. Keep your helmet clean and in good shape, dispose of any cracked, crazed or damaged helmets. Store helmets out of sunlight as ultraviolet radiation will degrade all helmet shells if given enough exposure. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for their helmet. Don't paint, cut or modify helmets. We strongly advise against the use of untested tape, paints, adhesives (glue) or solvents on helmets. Some of them contain acetone and/or toluene which can weaken some shell materials. Felt pen is acceptable. It is okay to drill two small holes for mounting lamp brackets. Use sheet rubber washers under the bolt heads and nuts and don't overtighten. Last, be sure the bolt heads are on the inside of the helmet.
